A Quiet Love in Irish Cinemas from 6th Feb 2026
Following its global festival journey, A Quiet Love, Ireland’s first feature documentary told entirely through Irish Sign Language, will be released in cinemas across Ireland from 6th February 2026.
The documentary has enjoyed a remarkable run on the international circuit since its World Premiere at the 2025 Doc Edge Film Festival in New Zealand, where it won the category award “Being Oneself.” It also picked up the Audience Choice Award at the San Diego International Film Festival, underscoring its powerful emotional resonance with global audiences. A Quiet Love was selected to launch Singapore’s first ever documentary festival in December and also screened at Flow Festival, Australia and the Newport Beach Film Festival in California.
A Quiet Love has garnered widespread acclaim, including a sold-out Irish Premiere at the Cork International Film Festival in November 2025.
A Quiet Love captures the remarkable love stories of three Deaf couples told through Irish Sign Language: a decades-long forbidden romance across a religious divide, an LGBTQI+ couple navigating parenthood with Deaf and hearing children, and a Deaf boxer and his hearing partner facing a life-altering choice. A Quiet Love is a cinematic celebration of resilience, connection, and enduring love; featuring an immersive soundscape. It is Ireland’s first feature film in Irish Sign Language, produced by a Deaf and hearing team and directed by Garry Keane (In the Shadow of Beirut, GAZA).
In May this year, the film was honoured in Cannes with the Global Production Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, further underlining its significance as a ground-breaking work of on and off-screen representation on the world stage. The film employed 28 members of the Deaf community behind the scenes in a variety of roles, an Irish filmmaking first.
Financiers for the documentary are Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland, Coimisúin na Meán and TG4 with production/impact support from Reach Deaf Services. The film is produced by Dublin-based Curious North Productions and producers Anne Heffernan and Seán Herlihy. Executive producers are Niamh Fagan and Proinsias Ní Ghráinne. Sales agent is Taskovski Films.
