THE UNDEAD – 13 NIGHTS OF FRIGHT! Big Scream Halloween Festival Returns to Dublin’s North East Inner City
Zombies, Dracula, creepy carnival fun and a whole lot of Halloween mischief are taking over Dublin’s North East Inner City as the Big Scream Halloween Festival returns from 19–31 October. Details of the programme were announced today at a Spooktacular event in Central Model School, Dublin, with a Cheer Leaders versus Zombies school children dance off. Dracula, ponies and firemen were all in attendance with Councillor John Stephens, deputising for the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Organised by Dublin City Community Co-op, with support from the North East Inner City (NEIC) Initiative and Dublin City Council, this year’s theme, The Undead – 13 Nights of Fright!, promises a fang-tastic programme of community celebrations, spooky stories, creative workshops and family fun.
From Horrible History Walks and Monto’s haunted past to a Haunted House of Horrors, Halloween crafts, Fright Night Bingo and traditional music with FARÓ, there’s something for every ghoul and goblin. Brave souls can enjoy a candlelit reading of Bram Stoker’s Dracula’s Guest outside Bram Stoker House Plaza on 28th October, followed by a walking tour exploring the legendary author’s Dublin connections.
The festivities reach their terrifyingly good finale on Saturday 31st October, when the Big Scream Carnival brings the north inner city neighbourhoods to life with a parade and carnival on Common Street, Halloween celebrations on Sean McDermott Street and Zombie Land at the Royal Canal Greenway. Expect spooky movies at Diamond Park from 2.30pm to 8.30pm showing all time family favourites.
There’s more than scares on offer, too. Families can enjoy a dedicated sensory hour on Sean McDermott Street, while activities for children, young people and older residents bring the community together. A dog microchipping event, seasonal cookery workshops, creative workshops at Laurence O’Toole School, Dublin City Library hosted events in Charleville Mall Library and an Oíche Shamhna Pool Céilí add even more to the mix.
Best of all, the Big Scream festival events are free! Some activities require advance registration, while selected events are private or invitation-only. Check individual listings before attending.
