Lunar New Year ONLINE Community Celebration
The annual Lunar New Year Celebration, hosted by Hill Street Family Resource Centre in partnership with the North East Inner City Initiative and supported by Dublin City Council will take place virtually from 1st – 12th of February. This FREE family-friendly event will feature a wide variety of online activities and workshops for all ages to enjoy and participate in.2022 is the year of the Tiger which represents bravery, competitiveness and confidence with an emphasis on risk taking adventure for all zodiac signs this year!
During the twelve day celebration, members of the community can participate in a number of virtual activities including food, arts & crafts, dance and music performances. There will also be an array of competitions open to the entire community such as a talent show, a ‘decorate your door’ with Lunar New Year crafts and a family Bingo night resulting in prizes! Participants of all ages will enjoy a colourful celebration filled with culture and history!
Lord Mayor Alison Gilliland said, “Hill Street Family Resource Centre’s Lunar New Year Community Celebration is a great example of how we, as a society, can support the social development, integration, and leadership skills of our Eastern Asian families living in the North East Inner City and learn from, embrace and value diversity and seek to create a sense of belonging for all in our community.”
Eileen Smith, Project Manager for Hill Street Family Resource Centre said, “We at Hill Street Family Resource Centre are delighted to welcome the community to celebrate the Lunar New Year with us. The celebration is a great way to showcase our families and represent how our Centre works with our local community to engage with different cultures and brings families together.”
She continued, “While the 12 day long celebration will continue to be held virtually this year, the festivities will still involve a display of fascinating and entertaining activities for community members of all ages to take pleasure in while learning about Lunar cultural heritage and the rich diversity of people living in the North East Inner City.”
The celebration is led by a group of parents who live locally, and it has grown organically since it started in 2014. All are welcome to take part in this important festive and cultural celebration. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate inclusion and diversity as well as join a community online to say goodbye to the Year of the Ox and hello to the Year of the Tiger!
The event is funded by the Government under the North East Inner City Initiative as part of its annual programme of community events, and is supported by Dublin City Council.
