ADHD Ireland marks ADHD Awareness Month with national events, international speakers and opportunities for connection

ADHD Ireland is proud to announce a wide range of events and initiatives taking place throughout October as part of ADHD Awareness Month. This year’s theme focuses on connection across life stages and aims to support children, parents/carers/guardians, adults and students living with ADHD.

The month-long programme includes an extensive online conference, a national watch party, and a new partnership with Maynooth University. The events are designed to provide practical information, expert advice and meaningful opportunities for individuals and families to connect.

Speaking about this year’s programme, Ken Kilbride, CEO of ADHD Ireland, said: “ADHD Awareness Month is about visibility, understanding, and empowerment. Every year we see growing engagement from families, educators, and adults seeking support. I am especially excited about our national watch party. It will bring people together across the country to share experiences and see their lives reflected in stories produced by and delivered for the ADHD community.”

Members of the public are invited to join ADHD Ireland and partners for a unique watch party experience on the 8th of October in celebration of the premiere of the second episode of “Néara-Éagsúlacht: Dearcadh Difriúil” , a documentary produced by Tyrone Productions and broadcast on TG4. This screening gives an authentic and moving insight into the lived experience of people with ADHD and other neurodiversities in Ireland, told through the voices of those directly affected. By bringing communities together to view and discuss the programme, ADHD Ireland hopes to spark greater understanding across society.

The online conference aims to connect, build understanding and break the stigma associated with ADHD. Parents will have the opportunity to attend talks on topics such as supporting children with ADHD in school, connecting with schools effectively, and understanding the role of guidance counsellors. Adults will benefit from sessions exploring ADHD assessment, the links between ADHD and eating disorders, and the ways ADHD impacts relationships. Students at second and third level will also be supported through awareness talks and training in assistive technology to help them succeed in education.

Dr. Stephanie Sarkis, an internationally recognised ADHD expert who will present two sessions for adults during the conference, highlighted the importance of the initiative. “ADHD Awareness Month is a reminder of how important it is to create supportive environments at every stage of life. In my sessions with ADHD Ireland, I will explore gaslighting, narcissism, and how ADHD affects intimate relationships. These are areas where people often feel isolated, and I am delighted to contribute to building understanding and connection.”

In addition to the conference and the watch party, ADHD Ireland has joined with Maynooth University to offer a unique AI for Good course, opening opportunities for adults in the ADHD community to engage, learn and build confidence with new skills.
