Celebrate culture and creativity at Fingal’s Cruinniú na Cásca
Join Fingal County Council for a day of free family fun and creativity at Cruinniú na Cásca, which takes place in Swords Castle on Easter Monday, April 17. A host of local artists, craft-makers and artisan producers will display their creative wares as part of this family friendly Easter Market, which runs from 12 noon to 6pm.
The recently refurbished surroundings of the historic Swords Castle will create the perfect backdrop for the council’s Easter Monday activities which also includes live music and entertainment, children’s arts and crafts and more. There will be an opportunity to learn more about the history of Swords and its heritage sites, including Swords Castle, St. Columba’s Round & Square Towers, St.Colmcille’s Well, Peter Wilson’s Bridge and the Carnegie Library, from the Swords Heritage Trail Free Bus Tour which will be running on the day (must be booked in advance by emailing events@fingal.ie).
Paul Reid, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council said: “Cruinniú na Cásca will be an annual event celebrating creative and cultural aspects of community life in Fingal. For 2017, we are starting with a major free family event at Swords Castle and we have exciting plans to grow Cruinniú na Cásca in the coming years so that we can showcase the creative talent that is part and parcel of the communities and culture of Fingal.”
The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Darragh Butler said: “Swords Castle is a magnificent amenity in the heart of Swords and it is tremendous to see another exciting event being held there. The Christmas Market was a huge success and I am sure the Cruinniú na Cásca Easter Market will be just as popular.”
This event is part of Fingal County Council’s Creative Ireland Programme, a dedicated Culture and Creativity plan for Fingal based on the premise that participation in cultural activity drives personal and collective creativity, with significant implications for individual and societal wellbeing.
As part of the Creative Ireland initiative, Fingal County Council will also host an open meeting on Monday, April 24 from 7pm to 9pm in the Carlton Hotel, Old Airport Road, Cloghran to share details about the Programme and to explore opportunities to increase access, engagement and collaboration in the local arts, creative industries and community activities in Fingal. Anybody interested in attending the open meeting is requested to register at Eventbrite before Tuesday, April 18. Enquiries can be submitted by email to creativefingal@fingal.ie or by calling 01 8905097.
Eithne Mallin, Fingal County Council’s Creative Ireland Co-ordinator said: “Creativity comes in many different forms and is all around us even if we don’t recognise it. The aim of the Creative Ireland programme is to make people aware of the creative things they already do and inspire them to become even more creative. We would like anybody who is interested in stimulating creativity within their community to come along on April 24.”
