‘Climate Fest’ A Free Family Fun Day Celebrating Dublin Climate Action Week 2024
Climate Fest, a FREE fun family event hosted by South Dublin County Council (SDCC), took place today, Saturday, 14th September in the Round Tower Visitor Centre Gardens, Clondalkin. Part of Dublin Climate Action Week 2024, Climate Fest aims to promote environmentally friendly habits through exciting workshops, talks and activities including face painting and entertainment for children.
Climate Fest plans to further educate everyone on sustainable living and climate action. Those who attended learned about the benefits of a more sustainable lifestyle and the positive impacts one can have on the environment.
Businesses committed to climate neutrality and sustainability through their work have were invited to exhibit. Present were Smoothie Bikes, which use pedal-powered electricity to create smoothies, and in turn educate participants in alternative energy sources. Additional free activities included bicycle repairs provided by the Cycle Clinic, a clothing repair café from the Rediscovery Centre, a clothes swap hosted by The Sustainable Life School and talks and workshops from Codema, Recycle IT and SDCC Active Travel. The Climate Fest aims to encourage community spirit in the collective goal of greener living, and to educate attendees in easy and attainable ways to achieve this.
Members of the SDCC Climate Action team were on hand to discuss their work in making South Dublin County as climate-effective as it can be. Park rangers who oversee the stewardship of all seven of South Dublin parks were there to discuss the multitude of flora and fauna right on resident’s doorsteps. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak to a member of the Dublin Urban River Life Programme, which aims to improve both water quality and aquatic biodiversity in Dublin’s Rivers.
Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr Baby Pereppadan, said “I am delighted to see South Dublin County Council continue the hard work of encouraging and educating our residents in sustainable living. It is vital that we work together as a community in effecting our goal of climate neutrality by 2030, and that locals know how they can engage with the South Dublin County Council in achieving that.”
Gary Tyrrell, Climate Action Officer for South Dublin City Council, said “Climate Fest is a wonderful way to celebrate Dublin Climate Action Week 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for us to engage with locals and provide education in how we can all reduce our carbon footprints and live more eco-friendly lives. And as the entertainment put on here today shows, it doesn’t have to be hard work, and it can be fun for all the family.”
