Embrace the New: Welcome The Year of the Horse! Launch of the 12th Hill Street Family Resource Centre Lunar New Year Community Celebration

The highly anticipated Hill Street Family Resource Centre Lunar New Year Community celebration returns for its twelfth year on Sunday, 22nd February 2026 from 2pm. This family free event is brought to you by Hill Street Family Resource Centre (HSFRC) in collaboration with the North East Inner City Initiative (NEIC) and Dublin City Council (DCC).

Hill Street Family Resource Centre’s Lunar New Year Community Celebration sees Dublin 1 transformed into a wonderland of colour and activity; there is something for everyone with performances of traditional music and dance, workshops in Tai Chi, Origami and Calligraphy, and games and face painting for children, all brought together in a celebration of South East Asian Culture. This year we say goodbye to the Year of the Snake and say hello to the Year of the Horse. The Year of the Horse represents a period of rapid change, energy and freedom.

Launching the Festival, the Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Ray McAdam commented, “I am thrilled that Hill Street will once again come alive with the Lunar New Year celebrations. This vibrant event is a wonderful way to welcome the Year of the Horse and to see Dublin’s inner city adorned in the celebration of South East Asian culture and traditions. It serves as a powerful reminder that Dublin is a welcoming and inclusive city for all who choose to make it their home.”

Eileen Smith, CEO of HSFRC is delighted to once again be part of the Lunar New Year Community Celebration on Hill Street. “We are proud to be celebrating the Lunar New Year for the twelfth year in a row. This celebration is a true testament to the dedication of our staff and volunteers who have invested countless hours over the past few months to make this community event possible.”

Eileen continued “Our Lunar New Year Celebration is a direct result of the engagement of our South East Asian parents, who, twelve years ago, asked for an event that would allow their families a space to not only celebrate but take pride in their heritage. It is because of them that we now have this event, beloved by all in the community, and that we can continue the work of Hill Street Family Resource Centre to create meaningful and diverse community spaces where all are welcome and celebrated.”

The HSFRC Lunar New Year Community Celebration is a colourful and fun day of food, art, music and culture, with live onstage performances from 2pm to 7pm, Sunday 22nd February, on Hill Street in Dublin 1.

The 2026 Lunar New Year Community Celebration is organised by Hill Street Family Resource Centre, funded by the Government under the North East Inner City Initiative as part of its annual programme of community events, and is supported by Dublin City Council.
