Charlie is a kangaroo obsessed 12-year-old girl, who has lost her sense of place in the world after the death of her father and relocating to the remote town of Silver Gum with her mother. Meanwhile in Sydney, Chris Masterman gets fired from his job as a weather presenter and is exiled from his world of fame and TV. He flees the big city for a break but as luck would have it, finds himself stranded in the outback and out of his comfort-zone.

But after a road accident leaves a small joey orphaned, Chris rescues the little roo and with the help of Charlie, the two of them work together to rescue and rehabilitate other orphaned joeys with the support of her family and the tight knit community of Silver Gum – an endeavour that proves to be life-changing for them both.
