“Just Energy’s fixed price tariffs offer an alternative to prepaid meters”

The company responds to report on Fuel Poverty

Just Energy, Ireland’s newest retail energy provider, has commented on the increased dependence on pre-paid fuel meters by Irish consumers. The company highlighted the findings of a recent report by the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) on Fuel Poverty[1] which found that over half those surveyed in the areas of Ballyfermot, Palmerstown, Cherry Orchard and Chapelizod, went without heating in the last 12 months due to their dependence on pre-paid fuel meters.

Mike Cody, Ireland Country Manager, Just Energy, commented “The Left Behind in the Cold report highlights a growing fuel poverty issue in Irelandas many people move towards pre-paid fuel meters in their home, in turn, leaving them without the money to heat their home. The high administration charges for topping up these meters in shops means that these customers end up spending far more of their income on fuel than the rest of the population.”

The report found that around six in ten of MABS Dublin 10 and 20 clients now have pre-payment meters, compared to four in ten in 2013.

Cody added, “This report highlights the need for more education around pre-paid utility facilities. Pre-payment meters work for some customers but they are not the only option for those needing to budget. Just Energy entered the market to serve as an alternative for consumers to better help them manage some of their most important household expenses. Our products aim to remove the element of bill shock, providing customers with predictability, peace of mind, more control and greater overall value. As a Trusted Advisor in the energy market we believe in offering great value through competitive pricing, giving customers choice on the products that suit them best and the way that they want to pay.”

Just Energy is the only energy company in Ireland to offer an unlimited tariff; a unique product for residential customers that removes the uncertainty associated with typical energy tariffs. Customers gain the ability to fix their home gas and electricity bills, whatever the weather, for a full year. The Rate Saver tariff guarantees customers a fixed monthly bill over 12 months.

Just Energy, which recently received the “Best Energy Price Plan (New Customer)” Award at the Bonkers.ie National Consumer Awards, entered the Irish market in September 2017 with a broad range of new energy solutions that offer Irish consumers control over their household bills.

With a contact centre in Cork, the company has a dedicated team of energy advisors in place to help customers with any queries.
