Award-winning SAINT FRANCES, supernatural horror THE VIGIL and children’s animation 100% WOLF all set for Irish cinema only releases in July
Wildcard Distribution and Vertigo Releasing are delighted to announce the Irish theatrical release for three very different titles in July – the witty and heart-felt SAINT FRANCES from 24th July and the supernatural horror THE VIGIL and children’s animation 100% WOLF from 31st July.
The award-winning SAINT FRANCES is the feature debut from Alex Thompson written by and starring Kelly O’Sullivan (Sirens).
At the start of the summer, Bridget (O’Sullivan) has an abortion just as she lands a much-needed job in an affluent Chicago suburb – nannying six-year old Frances (played by the scene stealing Ramona Edith-Williams). With no time to recover, she clashes with the obstinate Frances and struggles to navigate a growing tension between Frances’ moms. As her personal relationships suffer, a reluctant friendship with Frances emerges, and Bridget contends with the inevitable joys and shit-shows of becoming a part of someone else’s family.
SAINT FRANCES is the first feature screenplay by O’Sullivan who stars with Lily Mojekwu (Widows), Charin Alvarez (Chicago Fire), Jim True-Frost (The Wire) and Mary Beth Fisher (Sense8). The film premiered at the prestigious SXSW where it picked up an Audience Award and Special Jury Prize.

Set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn’s Hassidic “Boro” Park neighbourhood, THE VIGIL follows Yakov, a former Hassid, as he accepts a position as a shomer, hired to “sit the vigil” and watch over the body of a deceased community member.
Having lost his faith, Yakov isn’t eager to go back to the insular religious community he only recently fled. But when Reb Shulem, a rabbi and confidante, approaches Yakov after a support group meeting and offers to pay Yakov to be the shomer for a recently deceased Holocaust survivor, he reluctantly accepts the job.
Shortly after arriving at the dilapidated house, Yakov realizes that something is very, very wrong. This will not be a quiet vigil. Steeped in ancient Jewish lore, THE VIGIL is a visceral and terrifying supernatural horror film set in a world audiences have never before experienced.
THE VIGIL is the feature debut of writer/director Keith Thomas (primarily known as the genre novelist behind The Clarity and the forthcoming Dahlia Black (both Simon & Schuster)), and stars Dave Davis (BOMB CITY, True Detective), Menashe Lustig (MENASHE), and Lynn Cohen (MUNICH, Sex and the City), among many people from the Ultra-Orthodox Community.
The computer-animated children’s film 100% WOLF centres on Freddy Lupin, heir to the leadership of a proud family line of werewolves. Positive he’ll become the most fearsome werewolf ever, Freddy is in for a shock when on his 14th birthday his first “warfing” goes awry, turning him into a ferocious… poodle. Thrown a bone by the pack elders, Freddy has until the next moonrise to prove he has the heart of a wolf, or risk being cast out forever. With the help of an unlikely ally in a streetwise stray named Batty, Freddy must overcome his pink and fluffy exterior to prove he’s still 100% Wolf.
Directed by Alexs Stadermann (Maya the Bee Movie) with the screenplay by Fin Edquist, the film features the voice talents of Magda Szubanski (Babe), Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level), Jane Lynch (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Samara Weaving (Hollywood) and Ilai Swindells as the voice of Freddy.
SAINT FRANCES will be released only in cinemas from 24th July.
THE VIGIL and 100% WOLF will be released only in cinemas from 31st July.
