Mayo International Kite Festival brings colour to Achill Island
Crowds gathered at Keel Beach for the sixth annual festival
Hundreds of kite fliers and spectators of all ages experienced a visual feast at the Mayo International Kite Festival this weekend on Keel Beach, Achill Island. Brought to you by Pure Magic, Sandybanks Camping & Caravan Park and Mayo County Council, families took to the skies and enjoyed free entertainment all weekend long.
Kite enthusiasts and amateurs alike painted the sky of Keel Beach with vibrant kites, creating a magnificent scene on Achill Island. With spectacular sights of hundreds of colourful kites, it was an invigorating event from start to finish. Enthusiasts built their own kites and showed off their skills throughout Saturday and Sunday, while pro kite flier, Andrew Beattie, filled the sky with his impressive kites.
Francois Colussi, event organiser, said, “We’re delighted to welcome families to the Mayo International Kite Festival once again this weekend. Year after year it proves to be such a fun day out for all ages, full of colour and good spirits and this year is no different.”
Andrew Beattie, expert kite flier, said, “It’s great to be taking part in this year’s kite festival on Achill Island. The conditions here are great for kites and it’s brilliant to see so many people come out and get flying.”
