Official Trailer Released for Standby
Standby, the new comedy romance starring Brian Gleeson (The Stag) and Jessica Paré (Mad Men), will be released in cinemas across the country from Friday November 14th with the official trailer now available online: http://youtu.be/nSksUYtRI1M
Twenty-something Alan (Gleeson) is down on his luck. Stood up at the altar and recently fired from his banking job, he finds himself working with his mother as a part-time tourist advisor at Dublin Airport. It’s there he comes face to face with first love Alice (Paré), stuck on standby for a flight home to New York. Their summer romance ended eight years previously with Alan promising to return to the US one day. He never did, and they haven’t spoken since.
Seizing his chance, Alan convinces a reluctant Alice to stay one more night in Dublin. Over the course of an unforgettable evening, they may just realise that they are more compatible than ever. But time is running out on this brief encounter. When does an unexpected second chance, become the one you’ve always been looking for?
Directed by brothers Rob and Ronan Burke, in their feature debut, and written by Pierce Ryan, Standby is about what happens when your 20s don’t go how you planned. It’s about falling in love, with a girl and a city again.
Both Rob and Ronan have strong backgrounds in short films and television. They recently helmed Series 2 of RTE’s hit comedy ‘Damo& Ivo’r, and have previously won IFTAs for their short Runners in 2010 and their work on The Importance of Being Whatever in 2012 as well as directing six episodes of the BAFTA winning ‘Roy’ for CBBC. Writer Pierce Ryan has a long history of collaboration with the brothers Burke, penning the scripts for their short films Smalltalk, Runners, and Jellybaby.
Commenting on the announcement, Wildcard CEO Patrick O’Neill said, “We’re very excited to be releasing the first trailer for Standby. With the terrific chemistry between Brian and Jessica and a fresh and funny script, it’s a thoroughly modern romantic comedy and an impressive visual showcase for the youthful, vibrant city that Dublin has become.”
Standby is produced by John Wallace of Black Sheep Productions with the support of BordScannánnahÉireann/the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and Film Fund Luxembourg.
The trailer for Standby is now available on the Wildcard YouTube channel. The film will receive its world premiere at the Cork Film Festival and go on general release from Friday 14th November.
