Gospel Rising Music Festival to raise the roof in Dublin City this May

The national festival will take place in Dublin’s North East Inner City this year

The Gospel Rising Music Festival is bringing musical performance to the heart of DublinCity as it visits the captial for the first time from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th May. The Festival will take over North East Inner City venues with energetic, soulful performances, workshops and events over the three days.

Promising to be the biggest Gospel Rising Music Festival yet, visitors are guaranteed a lively, fun and social weekend made up of workshops for all levels of experience and gigs showcasing Ireland’s many talented gospel choirs.

Organised in partnership with Festival organisers, Dublin City Council and North East Inner City (NEIC), the Gospel Rising Music Festival aims to spread the joy and positivity of singing with others. The perfect event for those familiar with gospel singing and those who have so far confined themselves to singing in the shower, this jam-packed weekend is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary charm of gospel music, learn from gospel resources and make lasting connections.

Tickets for individual workshops and the Saturday night performance start from €14 on GospelRising.com and a weekend festival ticket will provide access to performances, workshops on singing, choreography and musicianship for all levels of experience, and the Saturday night gig in Gardiner Street Church which will feature some of Ireland’s best-loved gospel choirs. On Sunday, 18th May, MountjoySquarePark will host ‘Super Soul Sunday’, a free event from 12pm-5pm with plenty of musical performances, workshops, dancing and children’s entertainment.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Nial Ring, said, “It is a great opportunity for the North East Inner City area to host the festival this year with our different venues opening their doors for gospel choir music workshops and concerts all around the area. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is over 20 gospel choirs active in the DublinCity area, and on top of that there are so many similar community choirs, work place choirs and artists in our area. The Gospel Rising Music Festival is the perfect event for everyone interested in singing to experience Gospel music in the heart of our city.”

Michael Stone, Chairperson of the Programme Implementation Board for the North East Inner City initiative, said, “The NEIC welcomes the opportunity to partner with the Gospel Rising Music Festival to bring the festival to Dublin’s North East Inner City for the first time. We are particularly pleased to host Super Soul Sunday in Mountjoy Square Park bringing the inclusive and celebratory ethos of the Festival as close as possible to our diverse and multi-

cultural local community. It also gives a wider audience an opportunity to visit and experience all that is positive about the North East Inner City.”

Lindsay Rountree, Gospel Rising founding member, said, “We’re looking forward to another great festival, and this year is particularly special as we mark 10 years of the Gospel Rising. Each year we see the festival bring gospel music lovers together to enjoy in each others’ work, learn from this network and, more than anything, forge friendships.”

The Gospel Rising Music Festival is organised by volunteers in partnership with NEIC.
