Dementia Carers Event in the Mansion House organised by Cllr Deirdre Heney

Cllr Deirdre Heney organised a special event for caregivers in the Mansion House last week. This event was opened by Cllr Darcy Lonergan, chair of the Women’s Committee, Dublin City Council and was attended by several members of that committee. Dementia-inclusive The Forget-Me-Nots choir were joined by Mike Hanrahan, lead singer with Stockton’s Wing and guests were treated to an interactive ‘scarf dance’ choreographed by Olwyn Lyons. A panel discussion about being a caregiver was moderated by Karen Meenan, Global Atlantic Fellow for Equity at the Global Brain Health Institute, Trinity College – panellists included Kate Byrne, a member of the Patient Public Involvement (PPI) panel in Dementia Trials Ireland and Nora Owen, who served as Minister for Justice from 1994 to 1997 and Deputy leader of Fine Gael from 1993 to 2001. Cllr Deirdre Heney and Mike Hanrahan also joined this panel discussion. Refreshments were provided by the Women’s Committee in Dublin City Council.
