From two-time Best Sports IFTA winners Andrew Gallimore (director/writer) and Lydia Monin (writer), ONE NIGHT IN MILLSTREET is the story of Ireland in 1995, a snapshot of a country told through a high stakes prize fight in Millstreet, Cork between the then unknown underdog Steve ‘The Celtic Warrior’ Collins and the larger-than-life champion Chris ‘Simply The Best’ Eubank – an against-all-odds sporting event that had an entire nation gripped and on the edge of its seat.

The film, which won the Audience Award at the Cork International Film Festival and the Best Documentary award at the Irish Film Festival London, features interviews with the rivals themselves Steve Collins and Chris Eubank along with Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan, Chris Eubank’s former manager Barry Hearn, writer Paul Howard and Tony Quinn, Steve Collin’s Mind Trainer.

Speaking about the cinema release, director and co-writer Andrew Gallimore said “The intention for One Night In Millstreet was to evoke a time and place – Ireland in the mid-nineties, when the country was undergoing enormous social and economic changes.  For Irish audiences who lived through it, the film is sure to bring back all those feelings of excitement around the fight but also that sense of uncertainty that accompanies times of great change.  For younger audiences, it’s a glimpse into Ireland’s not so distant past with a cast of who capture that ‘anything is possible’ spirit of the time.”

Producer Morgan Bushe added “We’re delighted to be working with Wildcard Distribution on the Irish theatrical release for One Night in Millstreet. Even with the fight having taken place in 1995, the incredible twists, turns and subplots are as relevant and gripping today as ever.  It’s clear from the phenomenal reaction from audiences at the various film festival screenings, that the rumble in the rebel county still holds a real place in the heart of our country’s sporting psyche.”

ONE NIGHT IN MILLSTREET was produced by Morgan Bushe and Peter Murnaghan for Fastnet Films and Proposition Films with funding from Screen Ireland, Coimisiún Na Meán and RTÉ.  World sales at the European Film Market are being handled by Kaleidoscope.

Wildcard Distribution will release the film in Irish cinemas on 5th April 2024.
