Monica Loughman Ballet presents Giselle at the National Concert Hall
This weekend Monica Loughman Ballet presents the quintessential romantic ballet, Giselle, at the National Concert Hall this June 28th and 29th. Monica Loughman’s production of Marius Petipa’s classic, first performed in Paris in 1841, is a tale of betrayal, the supernatural and a love that transcends death.
Monica Loughman said of the performance, “The whole company is so excited to be bringing Giselle to the National Concert Hall this weekend. It’s the very first place I performed after I returned to Ireland from Russia so it holds a really special place in my heart. We’ve got such talented World class ballerinas from Ireland and abroad in this production; I really think that they’re going to enchant the audience. Anyone who comes to see Giselle will be seeing the classic ballet first performed in 1841, with a special Monica Loughman twist.”
The role of Giselle will be danced by principal of the Lithuanian National Opera Ballet, Olga Konosenko, whilst the part of Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis will be performed by Irish Ballet artist Leanne Sexton.
Monica Loughman is Ireland’s best-known and most accomplished ballerina. A former company principal at Russian ballet company – Tchaikovsky Perm State Ballet, prima ballerina Monica is the founder and artistic director of Monica Loughman Ballet. Earlier this year Monica featured as a coach on Channel 4’s Big Ballet where she mentored eighteen plus size amateur dancers, with dreams of performing Swan Lake. Following its success with UK and Irish audiences, Big Ballet recently aired American TV.
First performed in Paris in 1841, Giselle is one of the most magnificent and enchanting of the classic ballets. Magical and exciting – Giselle will delight young and old alike.
Giselle will be performed by the Monica Loughman Ballet company in the National Concert Hall, 28th and 29th June at 8pm. Tickets cost: €25 – €35 and are available from: www.nch.ie
