Multicultural Free Family Fun Day… Celebrating Diversity This Weekend

Dublin City Council teams up with St Patrick’s Athletic to announce family fun day

Dublin City Council would like to announce that it has teamed up with St Patrick’s Athletic for a free Multicultural Family Fun Day tomorrow, June 25th.

The day, which is about Celebrating Diversity in the Dublin South City area, takes place from 11am to 2pm.

Taking place in Richmond Park Football Stadium, the programme boasts a diverse list of music, dance, sport and creative activities. It truly has something for everyone.

On the day there will be food stalls with ethnic food for sampling, cultural music and dance from Ireland, Africa and Georgia and sporting activities including soccer, GAA and boxing. Activities to keep the little ones entertained will range from face painting to art and crafts. Also present on the day will be a number of pop-ups with key support agencies from around the south city area available to discuss their services and activities. Over three hours, a diverse group of exhibitors will gather to showcase their cultural talents.

Commenting on the event, Una Lowry, CEO of Dublin South City Partnership confirmed that her organisation is “delighted to be involved in this event which demonstrates how local communities have welcomed and embraced the integration of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers into their areas.”

Community Officer with St Patrick’s Athletic, Niall Cully, commented that it is “great to open Richmond Park up to everyone around the area. We are proud to play a part in this inclusive event to help raise awareness for everyone in the community of the organisations be it sport, music, education or family supports that exist locally.”

Speaking on behalf of the main sponsor, Dublin City Council, Beatrice Casserly, said, “We all need to feel a sense of belonging and community, positive communities work to foster a feeling of genuine connection with everyone. Information and good communication is a vital element for true Community Integration to take place. To be a truly inclusive city we must all take action and responsibility, Community is not one thing! Community is everything!”
