Summer 2019 declared a season of last minute holidays

Exceptional value holidays save the day as weather disappoints

Click&Go, Ireland’s fastest growing online travel company, has declared 2019 the summer of last minute holidays as June bookings soar 84% compared to June 2018. Disappointing weather and increased capacity for travel and accommodation at exceptional prices have led to a “lates” market as Irish holidaymakers to run to the sun.

Those with high expectations of a summer similar to last year’s record temperatures were left sorely disappointed when June looked a lot like November, with rain every day from the 1st to the 15th of June.

Paul Hacket, CEO of Click&Go, said, “2019 is a ‘lates’ market as more are looking to book at the last minute. I think people may have been expecting to have a second summer of good weather, but we live in Ireland! You couldn’t give away a sun holiday last June as we were enjoying the best Irish weather in over 40 years, but it’s a very different story this summer.”

“There is massive value to be exploited if you’re still looking for a summer holiday in the sunshine. Our data show that the average prices are down by €40 per person, or €160 for a family of four, to favourite destinations such as Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.”

Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair have increased capacity this year making it easier than ever to book a last minute getaway at great prices.

Hackett continued, “Looking at accommodation, Brexit is providing a silver lining to Irish holidaymakers as 1 millions less Britons are taking a sun holiday this year. The hoteliers we work with in Spain, Portugal and the Canaries are missing these bookings and offering great value for everyone else to pick it up.”

“Our top performing destinations include Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Algarve and Costa del Sol.

Current Click&Go Sun offers (including flights & accommodation):

  • Gran Canaria, July from €399pp
  • Tenerife, July from €529pp
  • Lanzarote, July from €489pp
  • Tenerife, August from €419pp
  • Fuerteventura, August from €329pp
  • Turkey (Dalaman Region), August from €439pp

Click&Go are also reporting a huge shake up in the summer cruise market too. While cruise bookings from May and June 2019 have increased over 220% on last year, new ships are increasing route capacity. This means what was traditionally an early-booking market is now offering brilliant value for those considering a cruise this year.
