Collaboration between Dublin City Council, Sláintecare Healthy Communities, Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre and Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership

Dublin, 13th April 2024:  Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste officially launched parkHIIT in Ballyfermot People’s Park earlier today. parkHIIT offers local communities free 30-minute bodyweight only resistance exercise sessions, aimed at enhancing fitness levels and overall well-being.

The Cherry Orchard and Ballyfermot communities were encouraged to explore the range of fitness services available and were invited to join a special parkHIIT bodyweight workout session with the Lord Mayor. The initiative is delivered in partnership with Dublin City Council, Sláintecare Healthy Communities, Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership, and the Health and Wellbeing Hub which is run by the Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre.

The Health and Wellbeing Hub was established by the Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre (BCCC) to promote health and happiness for all by offering a range of free fitness activities such as yoga, men on the move, chair aerobics, and now parkHIIT, enriching the lives of Cherry Orchard and Ballyfermot residents.  The Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste, said, “I am excited to announce the launch of parkHIIT for the local community in Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard, as it marks an important step towards a healthier and happier community. This collaborative effort between Dublin City Council, Sláintecare Healthy Communities, Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre and the Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership showcases our shared commitment towards ensuring that everyone in the community, irrespective of their circumstances, gets the opportunity to build a healthy life, both physically and mentally.  Together I would like for us as a community to support every resident on their journey towards a long life and healthy future.”

Counsellor Vincent Jackson, Chairperson, Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre Board, said, “It is a delight to witness community driven initiatives like the launch of parkHIIT in Ballyfermot. We are not only working towards a healthier community but also empowering our residents to work towards their well-being journey. The sessions are available free of charge to the people living in Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard and we are looking forward to residents participating and taking that first step towards good health.” Brian Crooke, CEO parkHIIT, said “The impact that accessible fitness initiatives can have is profound and through this initiative we hope to create a wave of positivity and transformation in the lives of the people in this community. parkHIIT’s vision goes beyond exercise, it is about building healthy communities where people feel their best and want the best for each other. parkHIIT is not a class, it’s a community exercise session. We also upskill and empower volunteer community leaders to lead parkHIIT sessions and we hope to achieve the same in Ballyfermot.”

parkHIIT workouts are available to all residents above the age of 18 in the Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard area. Sessions are open to the public every Saturday at People’s Park between 9:30am to 10:00 am, followed by a healthy breakfast free of charge. Sláintecare Healthy Communities is a cross-Government initiative aimed at delivering increased health and wellbeing services to 19 community areas across Ireland. This initiative is also aimed at fostering a culture of health and wellness in the community in collaboration with the Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre and Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership.
